We are making the changes to:
Improve the quality of material collected
We have already trialled this scheme at 10,000 properties across the city, and the amount of incorrect items in recycling bags reduced from 30% to 7%.
Reduce single use plastics
Once the whole city is on separate recycling collections, we will save 24 million single use plastic bags a year.
Help prevent climate change
By improving the quality of recycling, more of it will remain in the UK to be recycles instead of being sent abroad. This will reduce our carbon emissions.
Increase our recycling rates
Our recycling performance is currently around 62% which is under the Welsh Government target of 70%. The changes will help increase the rate.
