Policies

Cardiff County and the Vale of Glamorgan Music Service is committed to providing the highest quality musical experiences in schools and performance venues.

We believe that all pupils should be given the opportunity to explore, develop and celebrate their musicianship in a way that is pleasing to them.

We strive to make sure that all pupils have access to tuition by working in partnership with school leaders.

Staff

All of our teaching staff have been interviewed to ensure they have the appropriate qualifications, experience and potential to make a real difference.

They are expected to keep up to date with teaching methodology and take responsibility for their own development.

We support them by providing inset training and development opportunities, and assist them with the management of their pupil lists and data.

All staff are observed and their performance is reviewed on an ongoing basis.

All staff have DBS checks (vetting) and comply with Council Health and Safety, Safeguarding and the Behaviour Policies which are available on our website.

Equality, diversity and Inclusion

CCVG Music Service is committed to meeting the needs of all children, and shapes provision to ensure that there are no barriers to participation.

We have specialist tutors who work with additional needs, and we consult with school staff to make sure the sessions are appropriate.

We are a culturally diverse service, and present music from around the world, using a variety of teaching methods and instruments.

CCVG Music Service Online Learning Guidance

Parents must be registered with the Music Service and agree to terms and conditions.

All online lessons will carry the same safeguards for our tutors as face to face, and all aspects of our safeguarding and child protection policies apply.

Tutors have been advised to protect themselves from accidental inappropriate contact with students by restricting their profile, and will not accept contact requests from students. Parents should ensure this is clearly understood by the student.

The parent or guardian will be sent the invitation to join the lesson, and must confirm that they are present and happy for the lesson to proceed. Ideally the parent should stay in the room, or close by, and be on hand to be called back to speak to the teacher at any time.

At the end of the lesson the parent must sign off and confirm the lesson is ending – the teacher will then close the session.

The tutor will emphasise to students and their parents that the online platform is to be used for lessons only, not for any other contact. Parents must ensure that students restrict their own profiles so that they can only receive calls from known contacts. All communications will be made to the parent email, with links to the approved video conference platform and to download and view resources.

Students should not wear inappropriate attire, and the lesson must take place in an appropriate space such as a living/dining room. There should be no other activities taking place i.e. other siblings playing or audible devices such as TV on. In this instance, the parent will be called to the screen and the lesson terminated until the situation is resolved. The same applies if a pupil behaves inappropriately.

Parents must report any issues or concerns to CCVG Music Service without delay – ccvgmusicservice@cardiff.gov.ukLink opens in a new window
