A report on the consultation on proposed changes to provide high quality primary specialist school places for children and young people with Additional Learning Needs will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet at its meeting on 21 March 2024.
The report informs Cabinet of the responses received during the consultation, the issues raised, the Council’s response to these and recommendations on the way forward.
In the report, Cabinet is recommended to authorise officers to publish statutory notices to:
- establish a 20 place Specialist Resource Base for Autism at Coed Glas Primary School from September 2024, within the existing buildings.
- establish a 20 place Specialist Resource Base for Complex Learning Needs and /or Autism at Greenway Primary School from September 2024, within the existing buildings.
- establish a 20 place Specialist Resource Base for Complex Learning Needs and/or Autism at Severn Primary School from September 2024, within the existing buildings.
Cardiff Council is consulting on changes to provide high quality primary and secondary specialist school places for children and young people with Additional Learning Needs.
What is being proposed?
To meet the increasing demand for Specialist Resource Base places for primary aged learners with Complex Learning Needs and/or Autism, the Council is proposing to:
- establish a 20 place specialist resource base for Complex Learning Needs and/or Autism at Coed Glas Primary School from September 2024, within the existing buildings.
- establish a 20 place specialist resource base for Complex Learning Needs and/or Autism at Greenway Primary School from September 2024, within the existing buildings.
- establish a 20 place specialist resource base for Complex Learning Needs and/or Autism at Severn Primary School from September 2024, within the existing buildings.
The consultation runs from 20 November 2023 to 19 January 2024 and is an opportunity to learn about the proposed changes, ask questions and to make comments.
