Extension of Operating Hours

As part of the City’s Covid-19 Recovery Plan, the Council supported the hospitality businesses by re-introducing the formal licencing procedure for outside hospitality (outdoor seating areas).

At 11pm outside tables, chairs and associated equipment (barriers, planters, umbrellas, etc) need to be stored, which can have a detrimental impact upon a business’ ability to continue trading inside.

To help support those businesses offering outside hospitality in High Street, the outside operating hours are to be extended, on a trial basis, as the offer of outside catering becomes more popular through the summer.

The council has offered businesses an experimental extension to their outside operational hours for seated catering.
The experimental hours for on-street pavement cafes in High Street will be extended to match their premise licence, or until 1am (whichever is the earlier depending upon their premise licence).

The trial will last three months starting in June 2022.

The Council will monitor the impact of the experiment by taking note of feedback and complaints.
Any infringements (such as unacceptable noise) would be pursued with the business concerned, which may result in the experimental operating hours being revoked from that business.

This questionnaire is your opportunity to record any comments, or report any incidents (such as, noise and anti-social behaviour, etc) directly to the council.
