We are proposing a new parking zone and would like to hear from you.
Parking zones can help to:
- prioritise parking space for residents and their visitors,
- support businesses by making sure there is a turnover of vehicles,
- make it easier for shoppers and visitors to find parking, and
- stop commuter and problem parking.
We will introduce parking restrictions such as:
- permit holder only parking,
- blue badge parking,
- pay and stay bays,
- loading bays or restrictions, and
- yellow lines.
You can find out more about controlled parking zones.
Why we are proposing the changes
Work has started on the new arena in Atlantic Wharf which will transform the area, create jobs, and grow the economy in the region. This could also lead to an increase in visitors wanting to park in the area during events.
We want to make sure residents will not be at a disadvantage because of these changes. We also want to encourage visitors attending events to use other travel options or park in nearby car parks instead.
Streets included in the parking zone
The zone will include:
- Albert Square
- Barquentine Place
- Celerity Drive
- Craiglee Drive
- Felbridge Close
- Halliard Court
- Henke Court
- Letton road
- Llansannor Drive
- Mervinian Close
- Schooner Drive
- Schooner Way
- Silurian Place
- Windlass Court
Operating times
Permit holder only parking, double yellow lines, and blue badge bays will operate all day every day.
The other parking restrictions in the zone will operate every day between 11am and 11pm. Christmas Day and Easter Sunday are excluded.
Types of permits
We will issue permits for eligible:
- residents,
- businesses (operational vehicles only), and
- places or public worship or community halls.
There is a maximum of 2 permits per property. Residents will be able to get permits for their visitors.
Carers and contractors will also be able to apply for a temporary permit while they are working in the zone.
We will not issue permits for:
- commuting or staff parking,
- student only accommodations,
- properties on private roads,
- developments with off-street car parks (even if there is not enough parking for all the properties in the development), and
- heavy vehicles (over 3.5 tonnes).
Parking with a permit
Permit holders will be able to park for as long as they need in:
- permit holder only bays, and
- shared use pay and stay bays.
Permits holders will be able to park in any permit parking bay within the zone. The bay does not have to be on your street.
Parking without a permit
Drivers without permits will be able to park in pay and stay bays for up to 2 hours with a ticket. These bays will only be on Schooner Way.
Commuters and people attending an event will be encouraged to use other travel options.
