Child pedestrian training teaches children in year 2 how to be safer pedestrians by taking them onto roads and showing them how to make the right decisions to be safe.
Children take part in an interactive classroom session and are taken out of school in small groups by the Road Safety Team. They will learn 3 main skills:
- Choosing safer places and routes to cross the road
We help children to recognise dangers and hazards and identify alternative crossing places. - Crossing safely at parked cars
We teach children how to use a safe strategy for crossing near parked cars (when avoiding them is impossible). - Crossing safely near junctions
We introduce children to the potential problems of simple and complex junctions and teach them a strategy to look in all directions.
