Borrowing eBooks

If you are a member of Cardiff Libraries you can borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines 24 hours a day.

If you are not a library member find out how to join Cardiff Libraries​.


eBooks for Wales is jointly funded by the Welsh Government and 19 other local authority library services. 

eBooks can be downloaded on to your PC or laptop, then transferred to your smart phone, tablet or selected eReaders. You can borrow up to six eBooks at a time, for up to three weeks. After this period they will disappear from your device.

Before you borrow

The first time you use the eBooks service you will need to create an account. To do this you will need your library card number and PIN to hand. If you have forgotten your PIN please contact us.

The first time you use the service, you will be prompted to download and install Adobe® Digital Editions if this software is not already on your PC or Mac. Adobe® Digital Editions software offers an easy and engaging way to view and manage your eBooks, including transferring them to portable devices.

eAudiobooks can be downloaded to your PC or Mac and then transferred to your MP3 player, iPod, smart phone or other device. You can borrow up to ten eAudiobooks at a time, for up to three weeks. You can also renew your items if you wish to keep them for longer.

Before you borrow

 
The first time you use the service, you will be asked to download and install the RB Digital Media Manager software. The RB Digital Media Manager is the easiest way for you to download, transfer and manage your eAudiobooks. 
RB Digital​​​​​​​​​​​​​ provides Cardiff library members free online access to around 250 popular magazine titles​​​External link opens in a new window . You can access these eMagazines via your laptop, PC/Mac, eReader, tablet or smartphone.
 
Many titles also offer access to a comprehensive library of back issues.

Before you borrow

 
You will need to use your library membership number in order to set up an account. 
 
Please note that during registration you will be asked to create two accounts.

  • The first account lets you browse the library's collection of free magazines. 

  • The second account is required by the RB Digital website for you to read and download the magazines for free. 


For your convenience, be sure to use the same email and password for both accounts. 
 
You can access RB Digital anywhere that has an internet connection including your local library.

RB Digital provides a​​​ Wales-wide subscription service to provide library members free online access to over 16,000 comics​​​​​External link opens in a new window . You can access these Comics via your laptop, PC/Mac, eReader, tablet or smartphone.

  • Encyclopaedia Britanica,
  • The Times Digital Archive, and
  • Oxford Dictionaries, Music and Art references. 
 
If you are accessing these from a Cardiff Public Library you will have immediate access to all these services.
 
If you are accessing these from your own computer you will be prompted to enter your Library Card Number when you click an eReference link.
