Cardiff Council is committed to promoting equal opportunities and diversity in employment and service delivery. As a large public sector organisation, it is important to us that we support the economic wellbeing of our citizens and that our workforce better reflects the communities we serve.
As an employer, we value diversity. Therefore, although not a requirement for application, we welcome and encourage applications from underrepresented individuals including those:
- aged under 25
- not in employment, education or training
- from our local communities including in particular disabled individuals, carers and those from the Cardiff BAME and LGBT+ communities
- ability to communicate fluently in Welsh.
No job applicant, employee or service user should be treated less favourably on the grounds of age, disability, gender identity or reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, (including same sex couples), race, religion, belief or non-belief, sex, sexual orientation and the Welsh Language.
Stonewall Index
The council has received 3 awards from Stonewall:
- Stonewall Gold Award Employer
- Top 100 Stonewall Employer
- Stonewall Highly Commended Network Group
The awards were given in recognition of the council’s LGBT Employee Equality Network. The council was praised for its work creating a workplace where LGBTQ+ employees can bring their full selves to work.
Cardiff Council is now placed 2nd in the Government and Regulator sector, and 10th in the Public Sector overall.
The fantastic performance in the Stonewall Index is a testament to the efforts of staff across the organisation.
The Stronger, Fairer, Greener vision for Cardiff makes a clear commitment for us to build on our Stonewall Gold Status award as part of our commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusivity, aiming to become a Stonewall top 100 employer and the highest ranked local authority in Wales in the Stonewall Index.
As a Council, not only have we been awarded Gold-status again, named in the top 100, and the highest ranked local authority in Wales, but we are also the highest ranked local authority in the UK.
Stonewall has recognised the joint-working across the local authority with ‘Highly Commended Network Group’. This is a well-deserved endorsement for our LGBT+ Employee Equality Network which is made up of employees from across the Council’s services.
