The cost of applying for planning permission depends on what type of work you want to do.
Some types of planning applications, such as to add or improve disability access in homes and public buildings are free.
Appealing a decision is free.
How to pay
If you are submitting your planning application by post you will need to post one copy of your application form along with one copy of your supporting documents. Payment can be made by card over the phone once the case has been registered. We will email you the case reference.

If you are applying online, you must pay via the Planning Portal.
How long does it take?
Planning decisions: The time it takes for a decision to be made depends on the type of planning permission you have applied for.
Typically we aim to decide applications within 8 weeks but applications subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment have a 16-week target date.
A planning decision is usually valid for five years, unless your planning permission has a specific time limit on it. You have five years from the date it is granted to begin work. If you haven't started work within five years, you may need to reapply or apply to extend the permission before it expires. If you need to do this, you must use a Removal or Variation of a condition application form. You can contact us if you need further advice.
You can find out how you can comment on or object to a planning application.
Appeals: If your planning permission application is refused we would encourage you to try to negotiate an amended scheme rather than submit an appeal. You can find out more about appealing a decision.
The Planning Portal website has compiled a table of average times for different types of appeal to be decided. This is usually around 15 to 30 weeks.
Please note that all times are a general guide only. Each stage of the planning process is decided on an individual, case-by-case. For more information, please contact us.
