Cardiff Council has resolved to implement a Visitor Levy from 1st April 2027 covering the local authority footprint of Cardiff. View information about the Visitor Levy consultation .
The levy is set by legislation of Welsh Government as:
- £1.30 per person per night for most accommodation types
- 75p per person per night for pitches and areas for camping, and shared rooms like hostels.
The Visitor Levy is subject to Value Added Tax (VAT). If an accommodation provider is VAT-registered, they must apply standard rate VAT (20% in the UK) to any amount collected for the levy.
You will not pay the visitor levy if:
- you are under 18 years of age and staying in a tent on a campsite pitch or in a shared room (such as a hostel or a dormitory)
- your booking allows you to stay for more than 31 nights, or
- you are in emergency or temporary housing arranged by the local council in relation to homelessness.
