A crowd at a concert

Venue: Blackweir Fields
 

A series of concerts will take place at Blackweir Fields this summer - as part of Blackweir Live.

For Teddy Swims on Friday 26 June, road closures will be in place along a section of North Road and surrounding streets from 4pm until midnight.

Road closures

For this concert, the following roads will be fully closed from 4pm to midnight:

  • Castle Street (from the junction with Westgate Street)
  • Duke Street
  • Kingsway

The following sections of road will also closed from 4pm to midnight:

  • North Road, from the junction with Colum Road to Boulevard de Nantes.
  • Boulevard de Nantes, to the junction with Park Place. Buses can enter via Park Place and Boulevard de Nantes and onto The Friary to gain access to Greyfriars Road.
  • Cowbridge Road East, from Cathedral Road through to the junction with Westgate Street, with access to Westgate Street being permitted.​

Civic Centre​

Access to part of the Civic Centre will be controlled throughout the day from 7am.

Roads affected include: 

  • King Edward VII Avenue
  • Museum Avenue
  • City Hall Road
  • College Road
  • Gorsedd Gardens Road.

The right-hand turn from Colum Road into Corbett Road will also be suspended during road closures to permit and manage access to residents and businesses off Corbett Road.

 

Trains

Information for those travelling by train.​
 

Great Western Railway

GWR will add additional carriages to help customers get back to Bristol following the Blackweir Live concerts. 

Trains are, however, expected to be very busy immediately after the concerts.

Those travelling from further afield should check connecting services, and the time of their last train home on the Great ​Western Railway website​.
 

Transport for Wales 

TfW will provide additional capacity where possible on routes to and from Cardiff for all Blackweir events, with later services scheduled to accommodate attendees.

From 10pm, Cathays Station and the station bridge will close - passengers will be directed to either Cardiff Central Station or Cardiff Queen Street Station.

A queuing system will be in place at both Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Central. Valleys customers can use either station and queuing details will be shared soon. 

Passengers are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, allow plenty of time for their journeys, and purchase rail tickets in advance.

Pay as you go

Pay as you go is also available on TfW and CrossCountry services across the South Wales Metro network (not valid on GWR services). Find out ​more about using pay as you go travel on the Transport for Wales website.

 

Park and ride

​There are no park and ride services for this event.

 

Event day parking

​Information on event day parking. 
 

Civic Centre

Parking for cars and coaches.

  • Getting there: Exit Junction 32 off the M4, head south on the A470 towards the city centre and follow signage to the Civic Centre.
  • Cost: £20 for cars and £30 for coaches. Card payments are available. 
  • Parking time: The car park will open at 8am and close at midnight. 
     

Sophia Gardens​

Parking for cars.​

  • ​Getting there: Exit junction 32 off the M4.
  • Cost: £20 for cars. Card payments are available.
  • ​Parking time: The car park will open at 8am and close at midnight.​

Sophia Gardens car park will be staffed until 7pm. All vehicles are left on site at the owner's risk. Cardiff Council will not be held responsible for any theft or damage to motor vehicles or personal possessions. Any vehicles left in the car park after closing time will be fined.


Shopping parking

City centre car parks are also available:

  • St David's Shopping Centre
  • John Lewis
  • Capitol Shopping Centre
  • NCP (Adam Street, Dumfries Place and Greyfriars Road)

 

Disabled parking

Disabled drivers are advised to park at the Civic Centre within the paid dedicated event parking.

However, blue badge parking is available via first come first serve along Park Place and Museum Place.

 

Buses

Bus services will be diverted while city centre road closures are in place.

Access for buses and taxis will be maintained via Greyfriars Road, Castle Street, Duke Street and Kingsway, as well as Cowbridge Road East between Cathedral Road and Westgate Street. This is to help crowds leave the area safely.

While Cardiff Bus Interchange will remain open, local road diversions will be in place and passengers should check individual operators' websites for full details.

National Express coaches will use Sophia Gardens as usual.

Motorways and trunk roads

The M4 motorway is expected to be very busy, so please plan ahead.

Taxis

A dedicated taxi pick-up and drop-off area will be available at the Civic Centre by the National Museum.

Taxi drivers are being advised that they will not be allowed to pick up or drop off customers on North Road, as this would cause unneeded congestion and obstruction to other motorists.

 

Cycling and walking

The cycleways and the pop-up cycleways within the road closure area will remain open for cyclists to use during the event, but North Road Cycleway will be diverted to facilitate the event set up and break down.

On concert days, a short diversion via a like for like bi-directional alternative route, will be in place. All diversions will be clearly signposted.

Cycle parking will be available at the Civic Centre.
