Supported lodgings is a scheme where eligible adults provide support for young people age 16 to 21 who are leaving foster care or facing homelessness.
Our Supported Lodgings Hosts offer their spare room to help bridge the gap for young people who need support and guidance before they can live independently.
The support provided during this time includes:
- Budgeting support
- Managing laundry
- Cooking skills
- Applying for jobs and completing forms
- Developing positive routines
- Emotional support
Become a supported lodgings host
Anyone over 21 with a spare room and an interest in supporting a young person can apply to become a Supported Lodgings Host.
Supported lodgings can be more flexible than fostering, so working part-time or full-time is not a barrier to becoming a host.
Becoming a host can be an incredibly rewarding venture and truly makes a difference to the young people you support.
We welcome applications from all backgrounds, cultures, sexual orientation, genders, and marital status. The main criteria is that you can offer a safe environment and are willing to support a young person.
Pay and support for hosts
As a Supported Lodgings Host, you will get a weekly allowance when a young person is staying with you.
You will receive initial training to become a Supported Lodgings Host and training will continue throughout your time as host.
Once you have a young person placed with you, the Supported Lodgings Team will provide you with regular support.
