Socially responsible procurement policy

The Socially Responsible Procurement Policy (PDF, 1 MB) helps make sure the Council uses its £783 million yearly spending in a way that brings the most benefit to local communities:

  • socially,
  • economically,
  • environmentally, and
  • culturally.

This policy gives a clear and consistent approach for how the Ardal Councils (Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan) work together on socially responsible buying. It follows UK and Welsh Government rules and supports the goals of all the Ardal partners.

The policy outlines 8 socially responsible objectives, which match the four well-being outcomes in the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act. These objectives are:

  • Reducing Carbon Emissions.
  • Enhancing the Natural Environment and Biodiversity.
  • Embedding Fair Work and Ethical Employment.
  • Creating Sustainable Employment and Skills Growth.
  • Working with our Communities.
  • Protecting the Well-being of Young People and Vulnerable Adults.
  • Supporting our Local Economy.
  • Promoting a Vibrant Culture, Heritage and Welsh language.
