Website upgrade on Tuesday 23 June

What we are doing to upgrade our website to improve accessibility and security for customers.

Applying for housing

We work with the main Housing Associations in Cardiff to help people find an affordable home in the city. We have a common waiting list for council and housing association properties, but also offer advice about other options.

Visit the Cardiff Housing website to find out about the different housing options in Cardiff.

How to apply

To make an online application please visit the Housing Online Portal.

To find out more information or make a housing application, please contact the Housing Waiting List Team by calling 029 2053 7111 (option 1).

Who can apply?

Anyone aged 16 years or over can apply for housing in Cardiff. Some applicants may not be allowed onto the waiting list due to:

  • anti-social behaviour,
  • immigration status, or
  • certain criminal convictions.

We offer all applicants housing advice to help you decide whether applying to join the common waiting list is the best option, and whether you are likely to be offered a home in the near future.

Our Housing Allocation Scheme

We have a limited number of homes to rent, so we have a set of rules to help us decide who we should offer these to. This helps us make sure that we help people with the greatest housing need first. It also makes sure that applicants have a choice about where they want to live.

Local Letting Initiatives

We also use slightly different rules called 'Local Lettings Initiatives' where we need to address issues in a particular area.
