To vote in any UK election or referendum, you must be registered to vote. It is very easy to register to vote and it usually only takes 5 minutes.
You only need to register once – not for every election. You will need to register again if you have changed your name, address or nationality.
To register you will be asked for the following details:
- your full name
- your postal address
- your date of birth
- your national insurance number (if you are 16 years of age or above)
Your National Insurance number can be found on official paperwork such as payslips or letters about benefits or tax credits.
If you cannot provide any of these details for any reason, we may need to contact you for further information.
If you have provided your email address, you should get a confirmation email after you have made an application to register.
If you have not provided an email address, you will receive a letter in the post.
