A child or young person is considered to have
additional learning needs if they have difficulties that have a significant, long-term impact on their learning.
They may have:
difficulties with learning, communication and interaction,
a physical or sensory disability, or
difficulties with behavioural, emotional, and social development.
ALN was previously known as special education needs.
In order to meet increasing demand, we are consulting on changes to provide high quality primary and secondary specialist school places.
