If you are in prison, on remand, or held in another place of detention, you could be exempt from paying council tax if you live alone.
If you live with another adult, you could get a 25% reduction.
If you are single
You will be exempt from paying council tax if you are:
- in prison or on remand, and
- the only person living at your property.
If you are in a couple
You can apply for a joint council tax reduction if your partner is on remand or in prison.
Applying for a discount or exemption
If you would like to apply for an exemption or discount, you can email: ctax@cardiff.gov.uk
You will need to tell us:
- your name,
- your address,
- your council tax account number,
- your date of birth,
- the date your property became unoccupied (if you are single),
- the name and address of the prison, and
- the date you or your partner went to prison.
