Help with Banking and Budgeting

Are you falling behind with payments of rent, council tax or utility bills? Are you struggling to manage your Universal Credit payment?

Our Money Advice Team can help you in a number of ways:

Budgeting

We can help you produce an in-depth budget sheet, looking at all your income, essential bills, other outgoings and debts. This shows you in detail what you are spending.

The Money Advisor can also help you set up standing order and direct debits so managing your money is easier.

Income maximisation

We can help you check what benefits you may be entitled to. We can also help you apply for and complete forms for different benefits.

Our team can help you apply for a variety of grants and discounts, subject to eligibility.

Debt

Using the budget  sheet, we can help you identify any debt that you have and negotiate with your creditors.

Fuel poverty

We can help you to apply for grants and schemes to help reduce fuel costs and bills, including Water Sure Wales, Energy Trust Funds and Warm home Discount.

The Money advisor will decide the best course of action for you to address your debts. They can also access free boiler schemes for those eligible.

Opening a bank account

You should have a bank account because:

  • Having money paid into an account is safer and you will receive your money quicker.
  • If you are looking for work or are in employment, most employers insist on paying wages into an account
  • You can save money by paying your bills through your account
  • You can keep track of how much you are spending through receiving regular statements or you can access online banking using mobile apps
  • Soon all benefits will have to be paid into a bank account as part of Universal Credit.

We can help you open a bank account by:

  • Advising exactly what is needed to open a bank account
  • Providing a form of ID if you are currently on Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction.
  • Advising on the options available to you and what would best suit your needs

Our advisors are on hand to explain banking terms and processes, making sure you fully understand what your options are when dealing with banks.

We have prepared a help with banking booklet (PDF 1 MB)Link opens in a new window  that gives you information on bank accounts and your options.
