Llais - Your voice in health and social care

On 1 April 2023, a citizen voice body for health and social care called Llais was introduced to replace Community Health Councils in Wales.

Llais has been introduced to strengthen the power and influence of people’s voices in shaping health and social care services across Wales.

Volunteers will be active in local communities across Wales, listening to people’s views and using what they hear to help make health and social care better for everyone. Llais will also be there to support people in making complaints through a confidential complaints advocacy service.

What we do

Llais operates across 7 regions:

  • Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan,
  • Cwm Taf Morgannwg,
  • Gwent,
  • West Wales,
  • Neath Port Talbot and Swansea,
  • North Wales, and
  • Powys.

Our volunteers undertake regular planned and unannounced monitoring visits to hospitals, clinics and other health service and social care premises and report to managers with feedback and recommendations for improvements.

We make sure service planners and managers are aware of the views of the people who use their services.

We are engaged on all plans for service changes to local health and social care services and in turn feed in the views of patients and public so they can influence the decisions taken by the Health Boards and Local Authorities in line with current engagement and consultation guidance.

We provide a free independent advocacy service should you wish to raise a concern in any part of the NHS or social care system. We can:

  • Advise you on available health services
  • Help you to find further information
  • Help you to deal with other health bodies
  • Listen to your comments.

If you feel that you need to complain about any aspect of the Health Service, we can help you by:

  • Providing information about NHS Complaints Procedures
  • Making enquiries on your behalf
  • Acting as a Patient's Friend at meetings with Health Service Managers

How you can help us

Let us know what sort of service the NHS and Local Authorities are providing in our area.  We need to know the views of local people.  Just as importantly, you may be very pleased with a service and want to be sure that it will continue.
