Governor Services offers training sessions to governors, clerks and headteachers that are:
- High quality and purpose designed
- Available both daytime and evenings
- Delivered by suitably qualified and experienced professionals
- Accompanied by comprehensive documentation
The Governor Training Programme is issued annually with updates provided throughout the year. It covers a full range of topics and includes mandatory training for governors, chairs of governors and clerks. The course programme is continually revised following consultation with governors and to meet changes to the law that impact on school governance.
Governors are also able to attend training in other Local Authorities across the region.

- A Helpline to discuss all matters of governance for governors, headteachers and clerks
- Induction pack for new governors
- Facilitation of a clerk appointment for those schools that request it
- Regular governors’ newsletter for all governors
- Regular notification of changes to the law that affect governing bodies
- Instrument of government issued to governing bodies
- Membership and contact list maintained for each governing body
- Advice on governor recruitment and appointments
- Maintenance of list of governors undertaking centrally based/cluster training
- Notification to schools of parent governor vacancies due to term of office ending and advice and guidance on all aspects of the parent governor election process
- Issue of templates to schools for parent governor nomination and election processes
We make every effort to make sure that planned training sessions are delivered, however when places are cancelled or bookings are low it is impractical to run a course for a very small group. In these cases, we reserve discretion to withdraw the course and either offer an alternative time or venue, or endeavour to provide the guidance and support you need through another route.
