Children start Reception in the September after their fourth
birthday. Parents of children in a Cardiff school nursery will receive details of the application
process.
We run coordinated admissions for
St Mellons CiW Primary School. You can apply for a place at this school through our online
admissions system.
For a place at all other faith schools, you need to apply directly to the school.

School placement offer emails and letters
You will receive your offer either by email or letter from Tuesday 19 April 2022.
You will receive one of the following
offers:
A place at your first preference school
You will need to
accept this offer by the deadline. You must respond to accept or decline your offer by
Wednesday 4 May 2022.
A place at a lower preference school
This happens when your first preference does not have enough
places available. Even if you are not sure about the lower preference offered, we
strongly encourage you to accept this by the deadline and stay on the waiting list for
your higher preference school. You still retain your right to appeal even if you accept
a lower offer.
No
offer
This happens when all of your
preferences do not have enough places available for us to offer in line with your
request. There are still alternative places available in Cardiff schools for your
child.
You must respond by Wednesday 4 May 2022.
You can:
If we have not received your response by 4 May 2022 we will
assume that you no longer want the place and it may be withdrawn and offered to another
child.
Once you have accepted the offer the offer the school will contact
you with details of the admissions arrangements.

2022 begins.

10 January 2022
| Closing date for online applications. After this date
any new applications will need to be done on paper and will be considered as a late
application.

February to April 2022
| All applications are processed and assessed against the
Admission Criteria. We will check and verify your address and any supporting information you
have given us.

19 April 2022
| Offer day. We will send you an email or a letter if you
have asked for your offer to be sent by post. Decisions can also be given over the phone
after 12pm on the offer day.

April 2022
| Waiting lists are established.
|
4 May 2022
| Closing date for you to accept or refuse the place we
have offered. We reserve the right to withdraw offers that have not been responded to by
this date. This is also the closing date for late applications.

May 2022
| Second round (late) applications processed and
assessed.
|
June 2022
| Second round results sent out via post. All
following rounds are processed
on a monthly basis from now on.
|
September 2022
| Children start primary school.
|

You can apply for all community primary schools and St Mellons CiW Primary School.
Please note that 15 school places are allocated using the Council’s School Admission policy
2022/23 and a further 15 places are allocated by the school in line with their admissions
policy.
