This is a six-week course designed to support parents or carers and their children.
The course focuses on communication, language and literacy through the medium of play and is based around the following themes:
- the importance of talking to children,
- everyday routines,
- out and about,
- books and stories,
- songs and rhymes, and
- pre-writing skills.
The course is delivered within all

Language and Play is run within many schools for nursery aged children and some reception classes.

A primary school programme which aims to improve the reading, writing and maths skills of children and their parents or carers.
The programme helps parents to know more about their child’s school work and be able to support them at home with more confidence.
Courses range from four sessions up to one day a week for one school term and are free to schools and parents.
Parents and carers may be able to get a nationally recognised certificate for taking part.
