Recycling Centres

Recycling centres are for household items only and are free for Cardiff residents to use. Businesses must use our Commercial Recycling centre.

Only visit a recycling centre to get rid of items that you are unable to dispose of at the kerbside. Please read full terms and conditions before making a booking.

Items must fit into the boot of your car. Our staff will not be able to assist you to unload your car.

Vehicles you can bring to a recycling centre

You will need to book a time slot each time you visit.

  • 3 visits per day
  • 30 visits per year for cars
  • 10 visits per year for vans

If you are visiting in a car, you can use your allowance flexibly but cannot visit more than three times per day.

If you are visiting in a van or a car with a trailer, you can only book 1 visit per month.

Vehicles you can bring to recycling centres

Recycling centres are at Lamby Way and Bessemer Close.

We do not accept mixed bags of general waste at our recycling centres. This type of waste should be put out in your black bin, or red striped bags for kerbside collection.

If you use all kerbside recycling services available and our hygiene collection service for nappies and incontinence waste this will minimise the amount of general waste you produce.

Please try to recycle as much as you can in your food caddy and recycling bags. If you are unable to manage with your general waste allowance, we offer an additional paid collection, or you can use a private waste contractor. You will need to make sure they are a registered waste carrierExternal link opens in a new window.

You can take most items to both centres. Please check before visiting.

Non-recyclable waste

If you have items that we cannot recycle you can bring them to the site.

Before putting them in the skip our site attendants will need to confirm that your items are non-recyclable. We recommend you use clear bags or a container to help with this process. If you need to use bags to transport the items, you will need to open them to show our staff. You must not use Council issued green bags.

Examples of the material that can be put into our non-recyclable waste skip include:

  • Pet waste for example cat litter or animal bedding
  • Blinds
  • Divan bed
  • Garden furniture
  • Polystyrene
  • Thin plastic film packaging
  • Mirrors
  • Sofas and armchairs
  • Wallpaper
  • Baby items for example car seats, highchairs, prams or pushchairs
  • Video or cassette tapes

If you are unsure, please ask our staff. If we do not offer a recycling service to dispose of an item, you will be able to put it in the non-recyclable waste skip.
