Aperture Bins Project

An aperture bin is a container for communal recycling. It has a hole in the top for you to dispose of dry recyclable items. You will collect your recycling in a reusable sack and empty items into the aperture bin for collection.

The project aims to encourage residents to separate their materials for recycling and prevent the contamination of materials. Collection crews have noticed that this is a problem. A select number of block of flats are participating.

The project will take place for 12 weeks. If your building is selected for the project you can expect:

  • an information pack
  • a re-useable sack
  • new aperture lids will be put on the communal bins
  • colour coded and sign-written 1100 litre bins
  • bilingual and pictorial signage around the bin store area

The information pack will provide details of what you need to do. This is a basic guide to get you started:

  • Place clean dry recyclables in your reusable sack
  • When your sack is full, take it to the bin store and empty into the aperture bins for collection.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact the waste strategy team.
