The Waste Collections and Storage Facilities Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) (1.35mb PDF)Link opens in a new window  assists planners, developers and architects in designing appropriate storage and collection systems for recycling and waste in both commercial and domestic developments.

The SPG will reflect changes to Waste Collection operations during 2015. These include:

  • Weekly collection of separate food waste
  • Fortnightly collection of garden waste
  • Standard size of a residual waste bin as 140 litres
  • Provision of storage for bulky waste items in high density developments

Buying the right waste containers for your development

140 litre and 240 litre wheelie bins must be bought from The City of Cardiff Council.

Bin Stores and Bulk Bins

If a bin store or the use of 1100 or 660 litre bulk bins has been approved on a residential development, we will need to carry out a risk assessment before bin delivery or waste collections can start.

If this applies to your development, please contact Waste Management once construction is complete.

For further information on the submission of planning applications please see the other Supplementary Planning Guidance notes and Planning.
