Garden waste will only be collected if presented in council garden waste sacks.

If your area has a garden sack collection, you need to opt-in to the service if you would like us to collect your garden waste. Ordering a garden sack will register your address to the service.

Reusable garden waste sacks are available to order via C2C by phoning 029 2087 2087 or can be bought at Lamby Way Recycling Centre, Rumney, CF3 2HP.

Garden waste sacks cost £2 per sack whether you need them for the first time, or need a replacement or additional sack. You can put out up to 5 garden waste sacks on each collection.
Garden sacks are not available in shops or to order online.

How to present your waste and recycling

  • All bags and kerbside caddies must be put out before 6am on the day of collection or no earlier than 4:30pm the day before.
  • Collections run throughout the day from 6am till 10pm.
  • Please return your emptied garden sacks and food caddies to your property boundary by 9am the day after collection. This will limit the potential of theft and/ or damage by another person.

Incorrect presentation of waste may result in a fixed penalty notice of up to £100.
Pay a fixed penalty notice.

Red striped bag deliveries

If you have just moved into a property and do not have any red striped waste bags, you will need to supply proof of new residency (tenancy agreement/ property completion letter/ initial utility statement) before your supply of bags are issued.  Please email your proof of new residency to wastemanagement@cardiff.gov.uk

You can also post a copy to Waste Management, Lamby Way Recycling Centre, Rumney, CF3 2HP or visit us Monday - Friday between 8.30am - 4pm.

Please note we will be unable to return original documents, so please only send us copies.

Red striped bags for general waste will be delivered twice a year and will be posted through your letterbox. If you have a communal front door for several properties in your building, and we are unable to access, we will contact you with details of how to receive your provision of general waste bags.

We cannot leave red striped bags in communal areas, in porches nor on pavements outside properties as there is a risk of the bags being taken by passers-by.

Most properties in Cardiff will receive their delivery in early summer and in time for the Christmas season. Properties in Cathays, Plasnewydd and Gabalfa will start their 6 monthly delivery cycle in line with the university academic calendar.

Extra Red striped bags

If you are a larger household of 6 or more, you may request extra red striped bags for waste that cannot be recycled. You will be visited at your home by a recycling advisor to discuss your request. You will need to show us that you make full use of the weekly recycling and food waste service e.g. full green bags and food waste caddy at your property.

If you would like to organise an additional bag assessment, please contact C2C on 029 2087 2087.

If your family has lots of nappy waste or incontinence pads, you are able to apply for a hygiene waste collection.
