Donating and recycling your bulky items

If you have any furniture or other large items that could be re-used you could offer them to friends and family or donate them to a charity.

There are also several websites that will advertise your unwanted items for free or you could contact local charities such as:

If items are not reusable and you have your own transport, please take them to your nearest Recycling Centre.

Our collection service

We offer a collection service for large or awkward household items and appliances such as:

  • Beds
  • Mattresses
  • White goods

Please note that this service is for collecting items from your home only. You will need to present them kerbside for collection.

Please do not put item/s out for collection before 6.30pm the day before collection. Any residents found placing items out for collection before this time could be fined.

Taking recyclable bulky items to our Recycling Centres is helping us to meet our recycling targets set by Welsh Government.

Collection is free for items that are recyclable. For items that are not recyclable, there is a charge. To see whether your item is chargeable or not, please see our list.

Large and/or bespoke items may need to be assessed by a member of the Collections Team before we can accept the booking to ensure the items can be safely moved onto the collection vehicle.

How to book a bulky item collection

To arrange a booking, please contact us on 029 2087 2087. We will take the payment over the phone using a credit or debit card. If you want to pay cash, you can visit one of our Hubs.

Please be aware that once the booking has been finalised, no additional items can be added to your booking.

If you choose to use an alternative collection company, make sure they are a registered waste carrier and have legal ways of disposing of your waste.

Cancelling a free booking

Once your booking has been made, should you wish to later amend the items please note that you can only swap like for like items, i.e recyclable for recyclable, chargeable for chargeable. You will need to contact us to make the amendment either via telephone on 029 2087 2087 or you can visit one of our hubs.

Cancelling a chargeable booking

Bookings may be cancelled up to 3 full working days before the collection takes place.

If you have more than one collection date, the 3 day notice period begins from the earliest date given.

If you cancel the booking within 3 working days of the first collection date, you will not be granted a refund. You will be given the opportunity to select a later collection day or swap like for like items, i.e. recyclable item for recyclable item. You will not be able to swap a recyclable item for a non-recyclable item.

What if my bulky items are not collected?

Collections teams may not collect your item(s) if:

  • items are not as described at the time of booking.

  • items are not placed out for collection in a manner agreed at the time of booking (e.g. dismantled)

You will then be responsible for removing the waste from the highway. Failure to do so may result in enforcement action being taken.
Assisted collections

Where assistance with collections is required from locations which are not at ground floor level, a working lift that can accommodate the bulky items must be available. Access to the items must not be blocked.

Operatives are unable to manually handle items down stairs, assistance will only be provided where the Collection Operative deems it safe to do so.
Where Operatives are requested to move items from the first floor or above, we will not be held responsible for any damage caused to the property during the manual handling process. Operatives are not able to help with the dismantling of furniture.
