Changes to waste collections February 2021

We are changing recycling and waste collections to improve the street scene and cleanliness of the city.

From week beginning 22 February 2021 we will no longer collect recycling and waste on Mondays.

All collections will take place between 6am and 3.30pm, Tuesday to Friday. The changes will impact all kerbside collection services, including bulky waste and hygiene waste.

This means your collection day may change. The time of your collection may also change.

You will be able to check your collection dates online or on the Cardiff Gov app. All calendars will be updated to reflect the new collection dates.

To ensure your waste is collected please put your bags or bins out by 6am on collection day but no earlier than 4.30pm the day before.

Changes to your collection

We are sending out letters to all residents to explain these changes.

All properties, including individual properties within blocks of flats, will receive a letter.

You will also be given a leaflet to show your new collection day, and a simple kerbside recycling guide.

To make sure our collection rounds are as efficient as possible, we have split some areas into ‘operational boundaries’. This is for collection purposes only, and will make no difference to your Council Tax banding or postal address.

This may mean neighbouring streets are collected on a different day to your street. Please follow the information in your letter, or check your collection dates online.

Putting out your recycling and waste

If you put your waste out on the wrong day, it will not be collected. You cannot report this as a missed collection.

Please return waste to your property, and put it out on your next scheduled collection day.

We will have teams in priority areas to let you know what to do if you put your waste out on the wrong day.

No enforcement action will be taken for waste being put out on the wrong day during the initial period of changes to recycling and waste collections.

Missed recycling and waste collections

There may be some disruption to collections as we bring in these changes. We will work to keep disruption to a minimum.

If you report a missed collection we aim to return to collect your bag or bin within 48 working hours of a report.

If your waste is missed on a Friday, we may not return until a Tuesday.

We will keep you updated of any collection delays during this period.
