Tree protection

Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) apply to specific trees and woodlands in Cardiff to help protect them.

It is illegal to cut down, prune, destroy or damage trees covered by a TPO, unless permission has been given by the council. In order to seek permission you must first complete an application for tree works subject to a TPO. (179kb PDF)External link opens in a new window

Please complete the form and return to treeprotection@cardiff.gov.uk. You can also return your form by post or in person to:

Development Management
County Hall,
Cardiff,
CF10 4UW.

The Welsh Government has created a document offering advice on Tree Preservation OrdersExternal link opens in a new window

If the tree or woodland you want to work on is in a Conservation Area then you also need to apply for consent using the same application for tree works subject to a TPO (179kb PDF)External link opens in a new window
