Contractor permits (Trade waivers)

You can apply for a contractor permit if you are a tradesperson or a landlord who is carrying out work at a property where you need to park in a marked resident permit bay or Permit Parking Area.

We will not accept notes in vehicle windscreens. If you park your vehicle in a resident only parking area without a valid permit, you may receive a Penalty Charge Notice.

Parking permits are digital. You will not have a permit to display in your vehicle.

Permits are valid for either 1, 7, 14 or 28 days.

When you have an account with MiPermit, you can buy and manage your permits on the website or through the MiPermit App.

Apply for a permit

To apply for a digital permit, you will need:

  • a MiPermit account,
  • a credit or debit card for payment should this be required,
  • your vehicle registration, and
  • proof of work being completed.

You can submit any evidence that proves that the vehicle is only parked for works being done at a property. This could be:

  • an invoice for the work you are doing,
  • a job sheet, or
  • a letter on company headed paper.

How it works

You can load and unload your vehicle from a permit holder only bay without a permit.

You must find a suitable place to park once you have finished loading or unloading.

Where you can park with a contractor permit

Controlled Parking Zones

A contractor permit can be used in any marked resident bay, limited waiting bay or pay and stay bay within the same zone.

Other locations

In all other locations, the contractor permit can only be used in resident permit bays or shared use bays on the street named on the permit (usually the same street as the property where work is being completed).

Registering multiple vehicles or multiple locations

A person can only apply for one permit per job.

For short stays, you can ask to use the visitor permit at the property where you are working. This is at the resident's discretion and should not be relied on for longer stays.

You can also use non-permit holder parking such a limited waiting or pay and display bays.

Managing your permit

You will receive an email once your application is submitted with a receipt for purchase. However, payment will not be taken until the application and evidence are verified.

Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive another email to confirm whether your application has been successful. We aim to review all applications within one working day of receipt of the application.

You can log into your MiPermit account at any time by selecting 'Manage Digital Permits' and view the details of your permit. For example, the permit location and duration.

If you registered your account with an email address, we will notify you both 21 days and seven days before the permit expiry date. This is on the basis that your application for a permit was successful.
