To apply for a resident permit you will need:
- Your vehicle registration number.
- Proof that the vehicle is bring kept at your address and linked to the permit holder.
A proof of vehicle can be:
- a Vehicle Log Book (V5C),
- Hire or lease agreement or
- Insurance Document.
The insurance address should be where you keep the car.
If you are a student and you are taking your car with you to university, your car should be insured at your university address, whether it is student halls or a shared house or flat.
Your home address for the motor insurance must be where you will be spending most of your time, but you can have a separate correspondence address if you don’t want your mail going to your temporary address. Changing your address can make your premium more expensive but if you don’t tell your insurer that you’ve moved across the country you risk invalidating any future claims.
You can buy visitor parking hours if you live in a street that is part of the Residential Parking Permit scheme. Your visitors can use these hours whenever they need to park.
You can buy up to 6 batches of 850 hours. 1 batch of 850 hours will cost £5. You will be able to buy a maximum of 5,100 hours per year.
Once you have bought hours you will need to register your visitor’s vehicle when they need to park.
You can use visitor parking hours immediately after buying them. To activate the visitor hours, log in to the MiPermit system and click on ‘Manage Digital Permits’.
Any permits due for renewal will be flagged on your account in the MiPermit system.
