Lost, stolen or misused Blue Badges

If you lose your Blue Badge you must immediately contact the issuing Council so that they can cancel it to prevent it from being misused. If the Blue Badge was issued by Cardiff Council you can call Connect to Cardiff.

If your Blue Badge is stolen you must first report the theft to the Police by calling 101. You must then contact the issuing Council so that they can send a replacement but you will need to provide a crime reference number.

While Blue badges in Wales are normally free, there is a £10.00 fee for a replacement Blue Badge.

The Council may cancel a Blue Badge which is no longer in the possession of the holder; for example when it has been reported by the badge holder as lost or stolen or the badge holder no longer requires the badge or has passed away. The blue badge may also be cancelled if it has been identified as being misused and anyone misusing the blue badge may then be prosecuted.

A Blue Badge is only for the benefit of the Blue Badge holder. The law makes misuse of a Blue Badge a serious criminal offence. If you allow someone else to take advantage of the parking concessions the scheme provides you could find yourself with a criminal conviction and a fine of up to £1,000. If you observe someone you believe is misusing a Blue Badge it can be confidentially reported by calling 029 2087 2087.

People who park in a parking bay designated for Blue Badge holders’ only may receive a parking fine. If you observe a vehicle parked illegally in a Blue Badge only parking bay it can be confidentially reported by calling 029 2087 2087.

Police Officers and Civil Enforcement Officers have the powers in Wales to inspect badges. These people should provide an identity card with a photo on it to prove who they say they are.

Police Officers and Civil Enforcement Officers can also remove and seize a Blue Badge when they have reasonable grounds to believe that it is being misused.

If a Police Officer or Civil Enforcement Officer asks to see your Blue Badge you must show it to them.

For further information you can call the dedicated Blue Badge helpline on 029 2087 3232 between 9.30am to 12pm, Monday to Friday.
