How to join a library

It's free to join our libraries. You can borrow books and use the computers for free, but we charge for other services like borrowing CDs and DVDs. You can borrow up to 15 items at a time from any location.

To join, visit one of our libraries and show one form of identification. This could be a:

  • Driving licence
  • Credit or debit card
  • Utilities bill
  • Benefit card or book
  • Bank or credit card statement
  • Passport
  • NUS or student ID card, including International Student Identification Card (ISIC) and International Youth Travel Card (IYTC)

If you're already a member of another library service in Wales, England, or Northern Ireland, you can join Cardiff Libraries by presenting your existing valid library card.

Under 16s

If you are under 16 your parent/carer will need to show one form of ID and sign the application.

Help to use the computers

If you are not confident using computers just ask a member of staff to help you get started. We also provide a wide range of daytime and evening classes, to help you improve your computer skills. Ask at your local library for details.
