Summer of Fun

After the success of last year’s Summer of Smiles and the Winter of Wellbeing, a ‘Summer of Fun’ festival is being held across the school summer holidays, for the young people of Cardiff.

Cardiff Council’s, Welsh Government funded, Summer of Fun programme is offering free and low-cost opportunities and activities for 0 to 25 year-olds across the city from July to September.

Details of the programme are being regularly added to the Council’s Child Friendly Cardiff WebsiteLink opens in a new window including:

July 23 to August 7

Come and join us on City Hall Lawn for a Summer festival of fun-filled activities. Join in on various workshops, watch fantastic theatre, spectacular performances, contribute to the communal Art installation, play games, or just enjoy the Sunshine.

Although the entire festival will be inclusive and neurodiverse friendly, the first session of every Thursday will be quiet sessions that tailor specifically to neurodiverse children, young people and their families.

July 23 to September 5

To connect with as many young people as possible during the summer holidays, a large number of organisations are providing a wide range of activities in areas across the city.

You can view a mapLink opens in a new window which shows the organisations taking part in each area and details of how to get involved.

Some of the activities on offer are: cycle training, sailing, aquapark experience, young drivers, junior triathlon, and Welsh provision aided by Urdd Gobaith Cymru and other Community Grants.

July 3 to August 7

Throughout July and August, Arts Active are working with partners across the city to run a range of fun arts events and activities for children, young people and families.
The showcase event will be “Out of Doors, Live on the City Hall Lawn” where there will be a packed programme of arts activities and entertainment.

The Arts Programme will also be heading out into community centres, youth centres and leisure centres across Cardiff to offer further fun arts activities for all ages.

On top of all the fantastic activities laid on in the Summer of Fun, there are lots of other things you can do throughout the school holidays, right in the heart of your community, in your neighbourhood,in the city centre, and Cardiff Bay:

Summer Reading Challenge and Summer of Fun in Hubs and Libraries

The popular Summer Reading Challenge is back in Cardiff libraries and hubs this year as part of a Summer of Fun seeking to inspire children in the city to learn more about science and innovation.

The challenge is part of a fun-packed summer of activities and events in Cardiff libraries and hubs. This year there will be an added bonus with more activities and events taking place as part of the Welsh Government-supported Project Gadgeteer Summer of Fun programme.

The Gadgeteers is also the theme of the Summer Reading Challenge and once again children can sign up and read six books of their own choice, and have heaps of fun, over the summer months.
