Asbestos

Asbestos is not a risk if it is in good condition and is not disturbed.

When asbestos materials age or become damaged, for example when they are drilled, sawn, scrubbed or sanded, they can release toxic fibres into the air.

The
Health and Safety ExecutiveExternal link opens in a new window explains what to look out for.

Do not put asbestos in your garden, food, recycling or general waste.

Disposing of asbestos

Kerbside collections

We can provide a convenient and free kerbside collection for small amounts of asbestos.

For kerbside collections, your asbestos will need to fit into one asbestos sack measuring 1150mm x 870mm.
We will deliver an asbestos sack to your property. We will also deliver a clear bag. You will need to put your asbestos sack inside the clear bag, so that it is double bagged.

You will be contacted by our asbestos contractor, and told when to put your sack on the kerbside for collection.
If you need an asbestos sack please use the online request form.

Bessemer Close Recycling Centre

You can take a maximum of two asbestos bags to Bessemer Close recycling centre. You need to book an appointment before visiting.

You will need to use asbestos sacks provided by us when disposing of asbestos at Bessemer Close recycling centre. If you need an asbestos sack please use the online request form.

Council homes

We monitor and manage asbestos in council homes to make sure it is safe. All asbestos containing material in good condition will remain in place and its condition will be reviewed regularly. If the material is damaged or is a high risk due to its location we will take immediate action to have it removed.

If you think there may be damaged asbestos in your council home, or if you are thinking of carrying out home improvements that might disturb asbestos containing material, you must contact us or call 029 2087 2087.

If you carry out any work or allow others to carry out work without written approval, you will be liable for any costs of dealing with any asbestos incidents.

Please remember that changes to the structure or the fabric of the property, without prior approval in writing, are not permitted under your tenancy agreement.
