Severe winter weather

We have plans in place to make sure the city is kept moving during periods of severe winter weather.

Our winter weather guide (132kb PDF)Link opens in a new window provides you with useful tips and guidance on what you and your household can do to prepare for periods of bad weather, including heavy snow.

If you have a business, the Cabinet Office has published a business continuity guideExternal link opens in a new window , which provides some essential guidance.

In the event of severe winter weather we will keep you updated with changes to council services that might affect you.

Bin collections

We will continue to collect your rubbish and recycling where it is safe for us to do so.

Please note that ice and snow underfoot may mean that collections cannot be completed even if the area is accessible by road. This might mean that whilst we can collect from some properties in your area, it is not safe for us to collect from others close by.

If your collection is today and collections are disrupted, please leave your waste out as collections may be delayed.

Collection priorities.

Red striped bag and hygiene waste collections will be prioritised over wheelie bin collections to reduce spillage and litter on the streets.

Food waste and general waste collections will be prioritised over garden waste and green recycling bags.

Booked collections of bulky items may also be affected - If we are unable to complete your collection we will contact you to let you know.

Commercial waste collections will be collected where it is safe to do so.
