Get copies of birth, marriage, civil partnership and death certificates

There are three ways you can apply for a copy of certificates of births, marriages, and deaths that took place in Cardiff since 1837 (when official records began). Civil Partnership records are available from 2005 onwards.

 

For all types of application you will need the following information:

 

  • which type of certificate you would like: birth, marriage, civil partnership or death
  • name or names the certificate applies to
  • date of the event
  • where the event took place
  • parents names for a birth certificate
  • any other relevant information that may help us locate the entry

 

 

Apply by post

Print out and complete the form you need:

 

 

Return it to the Register Office.

 

Certificates are £10 each and you will to include a cheque or postal order made out to Cardiff Council with your application.

 

We do not accept cash payments.

 

Apply by phone

If you are applying over the phone you will need to pay using a credit or debit card, so please have your card details ready when phoning.

 

Certificates are £10 each and we can post them out to you.

 

Apply in person

There are two options: 

 

Option 1

 

Apply in person before 11am and the certificate will be ready for collection after 2pm. if you apply after 11am the certificate will be ready for collection the next morning after 10am. the fee for this service is £20.

 

Option 2

 

Apply in person and choose the 'one hour' service. The fee for this service is £30. Applications must be made before 3pm Monday - Friday.
