You might be entitled to other discounts, disregards and exemptions from your Council Tax bill that are based on your circumstances not your income. Find out more about
other Council Tax discounts.
Do I qualify for Council Tax Reduction?
Council Tax Reduction is available to you if you pay Council Tax on the home you normally live in. You can apply for it whether you own or rent your home.
You can claim Council Tax reduction to help pay your Council Tax whether or not you are:
- receiving other benefits, tax credits, or pensions (including Universal Credit)
- working
- unemployed
- unable to work due to illness or disability
- caring for a child or adult
- retired.
But not everyone who makes a claim for the reduction is entitled to receive it.
If you have capital (e.g. savings, property or any other assets) of £16,000 or more, you will not be entitled to Council Tax Reduction unless you receive
