If you are a dog owner, you have a legal duty to clean up every time your dog fouls in a public place.

Fines

You can face an ‘on the spot' fine of £80 if you are caught not cleaning up after your dog. This can increase to £1,000 if the case is referred to the Magistrates Court for prosecution.

To help prevent dog fouling becoming a problem, please:

  • Don't let your dog roam the streets without you.
  • Always carry a bag to clean up any dog mess.
  • Dispose of the bag in any litter bin, or take it home to put in your black wheelie bin or bag.
