Voting at 16

In Wales you can register to vote at 14 years old. You will be kept on the electoral register until you are old enough to vote.

Registering at 14 means that you will be able to vote in the first election after you turn 16.

At 16 years old, you can vote in:
  • Welsh Parliament (the Senedd) Elections,
  • Local Government Elections in Wales.

You need to be 18 years old to vote in UK Government Elections.

This means that you can have your say on topics that affect you and be actively involved in the decision-making process for Wales and your local area.
