Returning Officers

​​ The responsible Returning Officer for the Senedd Cymru and Police and Crime Commissioner elections vary depending on their regional or constituency role and responsibilities. ​

​​​​Regional Returning Officers 

Regional Returning Officers are responsible for the overall management of the election for the regional poll.

There are five Senedd electoral regions in Wales: 
  • Mid and West Wales 
  • North Wales 
  • South Wales Central 
  • South Wales East 
  • South Wales West 
The voting areas within the South Wales Central Region are: 
  • Cardiff 
  • Rhondda Cynon Taf 
  • Vale of Glamorgan

Local Returning Officers 

Local Returning Officers are responsible for ensuring the election is administered effectively in their voting area. 

Local Returning Officer for Cardiff: Paul Orders, Cardiff Council 

Constituency Returning Officers (CRO)

The CROs are responsible for administering the nominations of candidates at the constituency contest, the conduct of the poll, the counting of votes for both the constituency election and that part of the regional contents. 

Cardiff covers four constituencies: 
  • Cardiff Central
  • Cardiff North
  • Cardiff West
  • Cardiff South and Penarth
