Rumourless Cities

Cardiff takes part in Rumourless Cities which is an URBACT Transfer Network of seven cities: Amadora (Lead Partner), Cardiff, Hamburg-Altona, Warsaw, Alba Iulia, Ioannina and Messina.

The network focuses on the transfer of best practice established by the municipality of Amadora, which addresses a common need across all partners; how to counter growing negative attitudes towards minority groups. The practice primarily focuses on migrant and minority ethnic groups, such as Roma and recently arrived refugees, but the anti-prejudice practice can be applied to other minority groups such as the LGBT community.

Cardiff's Local Objectives

  • Develop an inclusive and visible city narrative which consistently recognises and celebrates Cardiff’s diversity and the contributions of Cardiff’s minority communities.
  • Create a local evidence base on social attitudes and the experiences of minority residents in the city, particularly concerning migrant and BAME residents.
  • Demonstrate a visible political commitment to remaining an open and global city.
  • Build a network of allies and supporters who commit to the city philosophy of inclusion and peaceful co-existence, who reject extremism and xenophobia.
  • Facilitate youth leadership for inclusion and critical thinking on complex issues relating to identity.
