Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP)

The Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 requires public bodies across Wales named in the Act to work towards achieving seven well-being goals, including 'A Wales of Vibrant Culture and Thriving Welsh Language'.

Our Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP) sets out Cardiff’s approach to develop Welsh language provisions from Early Years to beyond statutory schooling in line with the seven well-being goals. This will also work towards the Welsh Government's Cymraeg 2050 Welsh Language Strategy target of 1 million Welsh speakers.

As the capital city of Wales, we want every young person to have the opportunity to hear, speak and enjoy Welsh. We hope that this will allow young people to fully embrace the language as part of our national fabric and recognise its place at the heart of Cardiff.
