Budget 2016/17

The Council faces a budget shortfall of £45.6m in 2016/17, this follows on from a budget reduction of approximately £100m over the last 3 years.

Budget savings proposals and consultation 2016/17


Following approval by The City of Cardiff Council’s Cabinet on Thursday 10th December 2015 public consultation on the budget proposals for 2016/17 commenced Friday 11th December until midnight Tuesday 12th January 2016.

Budget Consultation Report






3,348 residents filled in the questionnaire, giving their opinions on the proposals that were put forward. This included cuts to the Arts, changes to Children’s Play, Day Services and increasing the issuing of fixed penalty notices around littering and traffic offences, as well as a number of other topics.

 


The consultation ran for more than four weeks and included 20 community engagement events, a youth council event, an online questionnaire, a video, social media promotion and hard copy questionnaires distributed across the city.​

The City of Cardiff Council is fully aware of the duty to consult around the protected characteristics on budget proposals. These initial draft assessments will be further developed and informed with the benefit of public and employee feedback received during the process of consultation, and Members will be provided with final assessment documents closer to the time that they are making decisions on the draft proposals.
