Project Griffin aims to advise and familiarise managers, security officers and employees of public and private sector organisations across the capital on security and counter-terrorism issues. It works by encouraging the public to be vigilant and to report suspicious behaviour and activity around their community. This will help to combat both terrorism and crime.
Project Griffin aims to:
- Raise awareness of current terrorism issues.
- Give people confidence to report suspicious activity to the police.
- Share and gather information.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Seek ways to combat terrorism and crime.
- Maintain public trust and confidence in the police and other authorities.
Project Griffin awareness sessions are an opportunity to meet the police and to learn more about how you can help to keep your area safe. They involve a series of presentations from both specialist officers and your local police.
Topics covered include:
- The current threat posed by international and domestic terrorism and violent extremism.
- Hostile Reconnaissance; what it is and how to report it.
- What to consider in the event of a terrorist attack or incident.
- How to deal with suspicious items.
Project Argus is an initiative developed by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) and delivered by Counter Terrorism Security Advisers (CTSAs) and Counter Terrorism Awareness Advisors (CTAAs) throughout the UK.
This three hour multimedia simulation poses questions and dilemmas for participants working in syndicates and aims to raise awareness of the threat from terrorism, providing practical advice on preventing, handling and recovering from an attack.
It is aimed at managers and assistant managers and can be presented the location of your choice.
Project Argus is offered to you free of charge.

EVAC Warden Training sessions are designed to advise businesses, shop staff and security personnel as to how they can assist South Wales Police with aspects of resilience planning and emergency response including identifying and reporting suspicious activity, guiding people in an emergency and helping with police cordons.
EVAC Warden Training aims to:
- Deliver information about EVAC Cardiff and the likely response to a major incident in the city.
- Provide advice about what to do prior to, during and following a major incident. This will include some simple steps which can be taken to help prepare.
- Provide an overview of the available platforms for receiving alerts to major incidents that occur within the EVAC Cardiff boundaries, incorporating the LISTEN [CONSIDER] ACT [SAFETY] EVAC safety message.
- Introduce people to the concept of EVAC Wardens, and show how the role is used to enhance resilience in the city on a daily basis, and can be critical in a multi-agency response.
- Provide the knowledge required to enable people to support South Wales Police as an EVAC Warden during the initial stages of a major incident affecting the city.
