The city centre's wide range of land uses, historic environment and attractions mean that Cardiff is one of the leading regional centres in the United Kingdom. The standard of the city centre's shopping, office and leisure facilities reflect its growing status as a European capital city.
The city centre now receives international attention as it is the home of the Welsh Assembly Government, the successful Millennium Stadium and the many attractions in Cardiff Bay including the new impressive Wales Millennium Centre. Current redevelopment schemes such as the 'St David's 2' shopping centre and the International Sports Village will further raise the profile of the city.

The council supports the provision of high quality streets and spaces in the city centre. In recent years a number of streets have been upgraded with new paving, lighting, street furniture and public art. More improvements are planned for the future.
